Hi, my name is Laurens and I used to be an exchange student at Kangaku. As I've been practicing aikido for 11 years now, naturally I was interested in training with the Kangaku aikido club. And it was a very interesting experience! Especially the customs observed during training were a unique experience. As the advanced students make their way from the club room to the dojo, together with the teacher, they are greeted by a first or second year student who yells something at the top of their lungs. During ukemi or rollin practice, first and second year students alternatingly shout encouragements of ファイト, fight! I must also say I have gained great admiration for the stamina of all the students! I think they must have done at least 6 rounds of shiko (walking on your knees) around the dojo, whereas I had to give up after only 2 or 3 rounds! All in all, I had a great time training with the KGU aikido club! And I can certainly recommend anyone who practices aikido to at least try it once!
